Freiburg's bar scene is shaped by its students. The cafés along Bertoldstrasse and around the Augustinerplatz fill up in the afternoon, the bars along the Gerberau and Konviktstrasse run late, and there is a respectable craft-beer scene by southern German standards. In summer the action moves outside — to the steps of the Augustinerplatz, the bank of the Dreisam, and the open-air beer gardens on the Schlossberg.
