Bayreuth is in Upper Franconia, about 75 km northeast of Nuremberg. The most convenient way to arrive is by train: Nuremberg to Bayreuth takes around an hour on regional services, with trains running frequently. From Munich, you change at Nuremberg; the total journey takes about two hours.
The nearest major airport is Nuremberg (NUE), which has good connections across Europe. Frankfurt and Munich airports are also options with straightforward rail connections via Nuremberg. Bayreuth has no motorway but is easily reached by car on the A9 (Munich–Berlin autobahn), with exits signposted for the city.
During the Wagner Festival (July–August), accommodation books out far in advance; many festival-goers base themselves in Nuremberg or Erlangen and travel up for individual performances.
