Saale Promenade

Walking path along the Saale river through the centre of town

The river Saale, which runs eventually north into the Elbe, passes through Hof at the foot of the hill the old town sits on. A landscaped promenade follows the eastern bank for about two kilometres, from the Untreusee reservoir in the south to the meadows north of Theresienstein park. It is the easiest piece of green walking in the city.

In summer there are paddle-boat rentals on the Untreusee and a small open-air bathing area. The promenade is well-lit in the evenings and is a pleasant way to walk back to your hotel from a late performance at the Theater or Freiheitshalle.
