Museum im Kulturspeicher

19th-century to contemporary art in a converted riverside granary on the Main

The Museum im Kulturspeicher occupies a converted 19th-century harbour granary on the banks of the Main, a short walk north of the old town. It houses a good collection of art from the 19th century to the present, with particular strength in German Impressionism and Expressionism and in the post-war concrete art movement — a local speciality that Würzburg seems to have produced a disproportionate number of. The building itself is attractive and the riverside location is pleasant.

The collection is not enormous but is coherently presented and well-labelled. It is a good complement to the historical emphasis of the other Würzburg museums. The café in the building looks out over the river.
