Focke Museum

The Focke Museum is Bremen's history museum, spread across seven buildings in a park setting about 3 km from the Altstadt. The collection covers the city's history from its medieval Hanseatic trading days through its 20th-century industrial period, with sections on shipping, the coffee and tobacco trades that made Bremen wealthy, decorative arts, and local culture. The park itself, with its old rose garden, is a pleasant destination on a good day.

The museum is particularly strong on the Hanseatic era and Bremen's maritime history. Several original doorways, façade elements, and interiors from historic buildings have been reconstructed or preserved here. It takes two to three hours to do justice to. Reachable by tram from the centre.

A story
Among the Focke Museum's holdings is the original figural decoration from the Rathaus façade, removed during restoration — medieval knights, lions, and coats of arms that weathered on the building for centuries before being brought inside for preservation.
