Getting Around

The Altstadt is compact and best explored on foot — the main sights from the Marktplatz to the Schnoorviertel to the Schlachte waterfront are all within a fifteen-minute walk of each other.

For wider exploration, Bremen's tram and bus network (BSAG) is efficient and covers the city well. Single tickets cost around EUR 3; day passes are good value. Tram lines 1, 2, 3, and 4 converge on the Hauptbahnhof and serve most tourist destinations. The Focke Museum is on tram line 4; the Universum and university campus are on lines 6 and 8.

Cycling is popular and well-catered for. The flat terrain and good cycle lane network make the bike a practical choice for visiting sites beyond the Altstadt. Bike rental is available at the Hauptbahnhof and from several operators near the old town.
