By air. Hamburg Airport (HAM) is on the northern edge of the city at Fuhlsbüttel, about 9 km from the centre. The S-Bahn line S1 runs every ten minutes from the airport to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof in 25 minutes — the simplest and cheapest option.
By train. Hamburg Hauptbahnhof is one of the busiest stations in Germany, with frequent ICE services to Berlin (under 2 hours), Frankfurt, Munich, Cologne, Copenhagen and Amsterdam. Long-distance trains also stop at Altona on the western side.
By ship. Ferries from Harwich and Newcastle dock at Fischerhafen on Grosse Elbstrasse, with buses to Altona station. Other ferries dock at the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken in the centre.
