The largest warehouse complex in the world, built between 1883 and 1927 on oak piles in the harbour and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Seven-storey neo-Gothic brick warehouses rise straight out of the canals, threaded with iron bridges. It still functions as a working warehouse district for carpets, coffee, and spices, but is also home to the Miniatur Wunderland model railway, the Hamburg Dungeon, the Spice Museum and the International Maritime Museum. Walk the canals at dusk when the warehouses are floodlit.
