The Bockenheimer Weinkontor is a hidden wine bar in a courtyard off Schlossstrasse in Bockenheim — wood-panelled, candlelit, deliberately old-fashioned, with an enormous wine list that runs from German classics to small-grower Bordeaux and Burgundy. The owners taste constantly, the prices are reasonable for the quality, and the bottle markup is far lower than at most German wine bars.
Small plates are the right approach — bread and cheese, ham, sausage, occasional warm dishes. The courtyard fills up early on summer evenings and is the most pleasant place in the neighbourhood to sit and watch the night come down. Schlossstrasse 92.
