Fulda's historic centre is compact and can be covered thoroughly in half a day. The cathedral complex — Dom, crypt with Boniface's tomb, treasury, and the adjacent Carolingian Michaelskirche — is the heart of the visit. The Prince-Abbots' Palace and its formal gardens make a natural continuation. For those with more time, the Rhön biosphere reserve begins just outside the city and offers excellent hiking through an unusual volcanic landscape.
