The neo-Gothic Marktkirche on Schlossplatz is the largest Protestant church in Wiesbaden and the city's tallest building. Completed in 1862, it is built almost entirely of red brick in a style that recalls northern German Hanseatic churches — an unusual choice for a Hessian spa town. The five tall spires give the city centre much of its distinctive skyline.
The interior is plain and well-lit, with a vaulted brick ceiling and a fine 19th-century organ. The bells include one cast in 1357, salvaged from an earlier church on the same site. The church is open during the day and frequently hosts free organ concerts; check the schedule posted on the doors.
