Getting There

Dortmund Airport (DTM) is a small regional airport about 10 kilometres east of the city, served by Ryanair and a handful of other low-cost carriers with routes to southern Europe, the UK, and North Africa. It is significantly smaller than Düsseldorf Airport, which is about 70 kilometres to the west and offers a far wider range of destinations — Düsseldorf is reachable from Dortmund Hauptbahnhof by direct train in around 45 minutes.

Dortmund Hauptbahnhof is a major node on the German rail network. The ICE high-speed trains connect to Cologne (50 minutes), Hannover (70 minutes), and Frankfurt (2 hours 20 minutes). Regional and S-Bahn services fan out across the Ruhr, making Essen, Bochum, and Duisburg all reachable within 30 minutes. By car, Dortmund sits at the junction of the A1, A2, A40, and A45 motorways.
