Essen has a good public transport network of trams, underground lines (Stadtbahn), and buses run by the regional STVA and VRR networks. Tickets are valid across the entire Ruhr region, so a single ticket covers travel from Essen to Dortmund or Düsseldorf without separate purchase. The Zollverein complex is served by tram line 107 from the city centre.
For cycling, Essen is relatively flat in the north but hillier around the Baldeneysee in the south. Bike-sharing systems operate across the city. Walking is feasible for central attractions but Villa Hügel, Zollverein, and Grugapark all require public transport or cycling.
