Le Comptoir is a brasserie on the St Johanner Markt that captures Saarbrücken's Franco-German character more neatly than most. The menu runs to steak frites, charcuterie, French onion soup, and Flammkuchen — the alsatian flatbread with crème fraîche and lardons that is the signature dish of this corner of Europe. The wine list leans heavily French.
Good for lunch or a relaxed dinner. The terrace tables on the square are the main draw in summer; the interior is warm and wood-panelled in winter. Prices are reasonable for what you get — considerably less than you'd pay for similar food in France.
