The Friedensbrücke crosses the Spree on the north side of the old town and is the spot from which Bautzen looks most like the postcard. From mid-span you get all eleven medieval towers ranged along the bluff above the river, with the Ortenburg, the Alte Wasserkunst, and the cathedral grouped together — the kind of intact medieval skyline that survives in very few German cities.
The bridge itself dates only from 1907; the original was destroyed in the closing days of the Second World War and the current version was rebuilt and renamed Peace Bridge after 1945. The Protschenberg path leads up the other side of the river for slightly higher views still.
