Leipzig's city centre is compact and very walkable — the Nikolaikirche, Thomaskirche, Markt, and Auerbachs Keller are all within a ten-minute walk of each other. The Hauptbahnhof is at the northern edge of the old town.
The tram network (Straßenbahn) covers the wider city well. Line 15 reaches the Völkerschlachtdenkmal; line 14 goes to the Spinnerei in Plagwitz. Single tickets are available from machines at stops; day passes are good value. Cycling is popular and there are numerous rental stations, including the DB Bike system.
