Gewandhaus

The Gewandhaus is Leipzig's modern concert hall and the home of the Gewandhaus Orchestra, one of Europe's great orchestras and a musical institution associated with Mendelssohn. The present building stands on Augustusplatz, replacing earlier halls lost to war and redevelopment.

Even without a ticket, it is worth noticing the building from the square: the large Sighard Gille painting inside can be seen through the glass facade. The real reason to come, though, is a concert, especially if the orchestra itself is playing.
