Sylt is the only North Frisian Island connected to the mainland without a ferry. A causeway carries trains from Niebüll (change from Hamburg or Flensburg), and you can also ship your car on the Sylt Shuttle train — there is no road connection. The journey from Hamburg takes around 2.5 hours.
Föhr and Amrum are reached by ferry from Dagebüll, a small port near Niebüll with direct train connections. The ferry takes around 45 minutes to Wyk auf Föhr and 1 hour 15 minutes to Amrum. Day-tripper services also run from List on Sylt to Munkmarsch on Sylt (by shuttle) to Föhr.
The halligen (Langeness, Hooge, Oland, and others) are served by small ferries from Schlüttsiel and occasionally from Husum or Dagebüll — schedules are tide-dependent and vary by season. Check the Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei (WDR) website for current timetables.
Nearest airports are Hamburg (2.5 hours) or Heringsdorf/Sylt (small regional airport on Sylt itself, with seasonal flights from several German cities).
