Kampen has been associated with louche nightlife since at least the 1920s, and the cluster of bars and clubs around the Whisky Strasse in the village is still the centre of the island's drinking scene. Tea-room culture on the heath above the cliff is the gentler counterpart — pots of East Frisian tea, a slab of cake, and a view of the dunes.
