The Monastery of Panagia Kosmosoteira is the main sight in Feres, west of Alexandroupolis. Founded in the 12th century by Isaac Komnenos, it preserves a strong piece of middle Byzantine architecture: a cross-in-square church, brick decoration, and fragments of frescoes inside.
The complex is quieter than its history suggests, but that is part of the appeal. It works well as a short detour for travellers interested in Byzantine Thrace or as a cultural stop paired with the Evros Delta.
