Almyros is the closest large beach to Agios Nikolaos, a long sandy stretch about 1 km north of the town centre that is easily reached on foot along the coastal road. The beach is backed by a lagoon and a small river delta where flamingos occasionally appear in winter. The water is shallow and clear, and the beach is Blue Flag certified.
In summer it gets crowded, particularly in July and August. Sun loungers and umbrellas are available for hire in the centre section; the far ends of the beach, a short walk from the facilities, are quieter. The walk to Almyros from the town passes the marina and offers views back over the lake and the old town.
