The German War Cemetery at Maleme is one of two German military cemeteries in Greece. Most of the soldiers buried here died during the Battle of Crete in 1941, when German paratroopers fought for control of the nearby airfield.
The site is quiet and sober, with views over the coast west of Chania. It is most worthwhile for travellers interested in World War II history on Crete.
