Iraklion has a good cafe culture centred around Lions Square and the streets leading down to the harbour. In the evenings, the action shifts to the Korai Street area (a pedestrianised strip a few blocks inland) and the harbour front. Raki — the Cretan spirit, similar to grappa — is the drink of choice; it is often offered free with dessert or at the end of a meal.
