Chryssolakkos

Chryssolakkos, the "pit of gold", is a Minoan burial complex near the palace of Malia. It is much smaller than the palace itself, but it matters because some of the finest finds from the area came from here, including the celebrated gold bee pendant now kept in Iraklion.

Treat it as an archaeology add-on rather than a stand-alone sight. If you have come to Malia only for nightlife, it will not convert you; if you have come for the Minoans, it helps fill in the world beyond palace walls.
