Drama is connected by rail to Thessaloniki (about 3 hours) and to Alexandroupoli on the Thracian coast. The train station is on the southern edge of town. Buses run frequently to Kavala (45 minutes) and Thessaloniki. The nearest airport is Kavala International Airport (Alexander the Great), about 40 km south, with connections to Athens and seasonal European routes.
By car, Drama is reached from Thessaloniki via the E90/A2 motorway in about two hours. The road east toward Xanthi and the Turkish border passes through the Nestos gorge, one of the region's main natural attractions.
