Drama is greener and more water-rich than most Greek cities — streams run through the centre and the parks are fed by natural springs. The old Ottoman quarter around Agia Varvara square is worth wandering, and there are a handful of monuments from the Byzantine and Ottoman eras. The city's annual short film festival has made Drama something of a cultural touchstone in northern Greece.
