Drama has a continental climate moderated by its mountain setting — hot summers but less scorching than coastal Macedonia, and cold winters with regular snowfall. Spring (April–May) and early autumn (September–October) are the most pleasant times to visit, with mild temperatures and clear skies.
September is particularly interesting because the International Short Film Festival draws visitors and animates the city for a week. The spring festival celebrating water and flowers (usually April or May) is the other event worth timing a visit around — it centres on the natural springs that give Drama its unusual greenery.
