Antisamos Beach

Antisamos is one of Kefalonia's finest beaches — a pebble bay backed by thickly wooded green hills on the island's east coast, near the village of Sami. The water is the exceptional blue-green common to this part of the Ionians, and the surrounding landscape is more lush and northern-looking than the western coast.

The beach achieved wider fame when it was used as a filming location for the movie Captain Corelli's Mandolin. It's accessible by road and has basic facilities — a beach bar, sun beds for hire. Combine it with a visit to the Melissani Cave and Drogarati Cave nearby, all within a few kilometres.

A story
Antisamos is where the beach scenes in Captain Corelli's Mandolin were filmed, though the production chose it for reasons of visual drama rather than historical accuracy. The pebble beach backed by green hills and turquoise water has appeared in so many Greek tourism advertisements since the film's release in 2001 that it has become almost paradoxically famous for an island that was ruined by earthquakes.
