Kefalonia rewards exploration. The island is large enough that you need a car, and most of the best things — the Melissani Cave, the summit of Mount Ainos, the village of Assos — require driving into the hills and along coastal roads. Give yourself at least four or five days to see it properly; a quick two-day visit barely scratches the surface.
