Lefkada cooking leans towards inland mountain food rather than the sea — sausages with quince, "savoro" fried fish in a vinegar and rosemary sauce, lamb cooked with thyme, and the famous Englouvi lentils. The Karya and Englouvi tavernas in the hills are the best places to eat the traditional dishes; in Lefkada Town the long-running Frini Sto Molo on the seafront is reliable, and Regantos in a back lane near the Phonograph Museum does excellent home cooking.
Down in Agios Nikitas the seafront fish tavernas — T'Agnantio, Sapfo — grill the day's catch and pour cold local white wine. Pricing in Lefkada Town and the major resorts is generally a touch higher than on quieter Ionian islands.
