Chimarros Tower is one of Naxos’s strongest inland antiquities, a cylindrical Hellenistic tower built from large marble blocks on a hill in the island’s southeast. It is not as instantly famous as the Portara, but its survival is striking, especially in the dry, open landscape around Filoti and Kalantos.
The tower makes most sense with a car or as part of a broader loop through the interior. Go for the combination of ancient engineering and countryside rather than a heavily interpreted archaeological park; the site is simple, but the setting gives it power.
