Patmos eats better than most small Greek islands, partly because the well-heeled visitors who come here expect it. The tavernas in Hora tend to be better than those on the waterfront in Skala — quieter, better produce, and less oriented toward tour groups. Local fish is the obvious choice: the island boats still work small-scale and the catch is fresh.
Look for Grigoris in Hora for traditional Greek food at fair prices; Benetos on the coast near Sapsila is the island's most ambitious restaurant, with a long Mediterranean menu using local produce and excellent wines. On the Skala waterfront, Astivi does reliable grilled fish. Reservations are advisable in July and August at the better places.
