Patmos has no airport — which is a large part of its appeal. By ferry, the island is served by regular Dodecanese routes from Piraeus (about 8–10 hours on the overnight ferry), Rhodes (5–6 hours), Kos (2 hours), and Samos (1.5 hours). Blue Star Ferries and Dodekanisos Seaways are the main operators. High-speed catamarans from Kos and Rhodes run in summer and halve the journey time. The ferry schedule changes seasonally; check schedules at the ferry company websites or at the port authority in Skala. By helicopter, charter helicopters can land at the small helipad near Skala for those who must.
