Psili Ammos Beach

The best beach on Patmos, a sheltered cove of fine golden sand at the southern tip of the island. The approach requires either a 40-minute walk on a rough path from the nearest road or a short boat from Skala — water taxis run regularly in summer. The inaccessibility keeps Psili Ammos quieter than most Aegean beaches of comparable quality; there is a small taverna and a beach bar, but no rows of sunbeds crowding the shoreline.

The water is extremely clear, sheltered enough for children, and the setting — a near-circular cove backed by low hills — is as close to the standard postcard Aegean fantasy as Patmos offers. Come early or in the afternoon; midday in August it gets as busy as this type of beach ever does.
