Psili Ammos

A shallow sand bay on the south-east coast, looking directly across the narrow strait at the Turkish mountains — barely a kilometre and a half away at the closest point. "Psili Ammos" means "fine sand" and the name is accurate; this is one of the very few proper sand beaches on Samos.

The shallow water makes it the best family beach on the island. A wetland reserve behind the beach attracts flamingos in autumn and spring. Two tavernas at the back of the strand serve straightforward fish lunches.
