Samos beaches are mostly pebble rather than sand, in a string of small coves backed by pine. The north coast around Kokkari has the densest cluster of swimmable bays — Tsamadou, Lemonakia, Tzaboú. The south coast at Psili Ammos and Pythagoreio has the rare sandy stretches. The wildest beaches — Mikro and Megalo Seitani on the north-west — are reachable only on foot.
