Panagia Katefiani

Panagia Katefiani is a small hillside chapel above Perissa, built into the rock about 200 metres above the village. It dates from the period between the 16th and 17th centuries, when its tucked-away position helped protect it from pirates and raiders.

The climb is short but steep, and the reward is as much the view over the black-sand coast as the chapel itself. Behind the sanctuary is a cave with a spring that local tradition treats as healing water.
