Getting There

By air — Skiathos Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport (IATA: JSI) is one of the more dramatic landing strips in Europe: the runway ends just short of the sea, and planes pass low over the road and the beach at the eastern end of the island. In summer it handles dozens of direct charter flights from the UK, Germany, Scandinavia, and other parts of Europe. Olympic Air runs scheduled domestic services from Athens year-round, though frequency drops sharply outside the summer months. The airport is about 3km northeast of Skiathos Town; taxis are available, and the town is also reachable by bus.

By sea — High-speed ferries and conventional ferries connect Skiathos to Volos on the mainland (roughly 1.5 hours by fast ferry), to Thessaloniki (around 3.5 hours), and to the other Sporades islands — Skopelos and Alonnisos. In summer, services run several times daily to Volos and Agios Konstantinos. Ferries dock at the main harbour in Skiathos Town.
