Golden Beach (Chrysi Ammoudia)

The longest beach on Thassos, a 1.5km stretch of fine golden sand on the northeast coast near the village of Skala Potamia. The name is accurate: the sand here is noticeably finer and more golden than most Greek beaches, and the water shelves gently, making it good for swimming at all confidence levels. Sunbeds and tavernas line most of the beach, and it gets busy in high summer, but the sheer length of it means you can usually find a less crowded section by walking further from the car parks.

The village of Skala Potamia at the north end and the village of Chrysi Ammoudia at the south each have a cluster of tavernas and small accommodation. The beach road that runs behind the sand is one of the more pleasant drives on the island in the early morning or evening when the day-trippers have gone. Golden Beach is also the departure point for boat trips to the more secluded Paradise Beach over the headland to the south.
