Getting There

Thassos is reached entirely by ferry — there is no airport on the island. The two main crossings are from Kavala (about 90 minutes, carrying passengers and cars) and from Keramoti (about 35 minutes, the faster car-ferry crossing on a dedicated route). Both run frequently in summer; in winter the Keramoti service is more reliable. Tickets are cheap and need no advance booking outside August.

Most visitors fly into Kavala Alexander the Great Airport (KVA), which has direct flights from Athens and seasonal charters from northern Europe. From the airport it is a short taxi ride or bus journey into Kavala and then a ferry to the island. You can also reach Kavala by bus from Thessaloniki (about 2.5 hours), making the island accessible as a day trip or short break from Macedonia's largest city. If you are driving from central Greece, Keramoti is slightly more convenient than Kavala — it sits right at the end of a fast road from the E90 motorway and the crossing is quick enough that you barely have time to drink a coffee on deck.
