Day Trips

The region around Thiva is one of the most historically significant in Greece, and several important sites are within easy day-trip range.

The monastery of Hosios Loukas, about 80 kilometres west, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of Byzantine architecture in Greece, with extraordinary mosaics in a remote mountain setting. It is one of the most rewarding monastery visits in the country.

Delphi, the oracle site of Apollo, is about 100 kilometres to the west — a logical extension of any visit to Boeotia, and one of the essential ancient sites in Greece.

The battlefield of Leuctra, 11 kilometres to the southwest, is significant for ancient history enthusiasts, though it requires a car and some imagination to appreciate.
