Tolo's location is its trump card. Nafplio — Venetian fortresses, neoclassical squares, the best small-town atmosphere in Greece — is ten minutes by car or a short local bus.
The great sites of the Argolid are all within an hour: Mycenae, the Bronze Age citadel of Agamemnon, 30 minutes inland; Tiryns, with its massive Cyclopean walls, halfway between Tolo and Argos; Epidaurus, the acoustically perfect ancient theatre still used for performances in summer, about 50 minutes north. A single long day could combine Mycenae and Epidaurus comfortably. Each deserves more than a rushed visit if you have the time.
