Elisabeth Bridge

Sleek white Danube bridge linking central Pest with Gellert Hill

Elisabeth Bridge is the clean, white suspension bridge between central Pest and the foot of Gellert Hill. The current bridge dates from the 1960s, replacing an older bridge destroyed in the Second World War, and its spare modern lines make it quite different from Budapest's more ornate Danube crossings.

It is best experienced on foot as part of a river walk, especially when moving between the Inner City parish church, the Danube embankment, and the paths up Gellert Hill. The bridge itself is simple; the views from it do most of the work.
