Getting Around

Budapest has an excellent and affordable public transport network run by BKK. Four metro lines, an extensive tram network, buses, trolleybuses, and the suburban HEV railway cover the entire city. Single tickets cost 450 HUF and must be validated before boarding. A 24-hour travel card for 2,500 HUF or a 72-hour card for 5,500 HUF is better value if you plan to use transport regularly. Inspectors with red armbands are common and fines for riding without a valid ticket are steep. Tram 2 along the Pest embankment is one of the most scenic urban tram rides in Europe.
