Eating Out

Hungarian cuisine is hearty, paprika-laced, and much more varied than the goulash stereotype suggests. Budapest restaurants range from old-school csardas serving enormous portions of stew and dumplings to a growing number of modern bistros doing creative things with local ingredients. Menus in tourist areas are usually available in English and German. Most places accept credit cards, but it is worth checking at smaller spots. Tipping around ten percent is customary.
