Hungarian Academy of Sciences

Danube-side academy building with a public art collection linked to Szechenyi

The Hungarian Academy of Sciences stands on the Pest bank of the Danube, close to the Chain Bridge. The institution is Hungary's leading learned society, but the visitor interest is the building and its Collection of Art.

The former Esterhazy Gallery rooms hold portraits, landscapes, historical genre paintings, archaeological drawings, and objects connected with Istvan Szechenyi. Check access before going, as this is still a working academy rather than a full-time museum.
