Housed in a wing of the Great Synagogue, the Jewish Museum was built on the site where Theodor Herzl was born. The collection spans mostly 18th and 19th century art and religious objects, arranged by ritual significance: Sabbath, holidays, and life cycle ceremonies. A fourth room covers the Holocaust, documenting the fate of some 550,000 Hungarian Jews murdered during the final years of the Second World War. It is a moving and important place to visit.
