Margaret Bridge

Elegant Danube bridge linking Pest, Buda, and Margaret Island with broad river views.

Margaret Bridge is one of Budapest's classic Danube crossings, angled in the middle so one spur can reach Margaret Island. Opened in the nineteenth century and rebuilt after wartime destruction, it has the ironwork, lamps, and urban confidence of the city's great age of bridge building.

It is useful as a route, but it is also a viewpoint. From the pavements you get a clean look south toward Parliament and the Chain Bridge, west to the Buda hills, and down onto the island's trees and paths. Late afternoon is especially good, when the river catches the light.
