Museum of Applied Arts

Budapest's Museum of Applied Arts is worth seeing for the building before you even get to the collection. Designed by Odon Lechner and Gyula Partos in the 1890s, it is one of the city's great Art Nouveau landmarks, with a patterned roof, rich ornament, and an interior that feels theatrical without losing its museum purpose.

The collection covers furniture, ceramics, glass, metalwork, textiles, and costumes. If you are tracing Budapest's architecture, pair it with the Great Market Hall and the nearby Ferencvaros streets.
