Porta Praetoria (Óbuda)

The Porta Praetoria is a surviving fragment of the Roman legionary camp at Aquincum in Óbuda. Built in the 3rd century, the gate once faced the Danube and formed part of the military town that guarded Rome's frontier. It is a compact sight, but a useful marker of how much Roman Budapest still sits beneath the modern district.
